AI accelerates whatever thinking you bring to it.

When your prompts are rushed or shallow, the output mirrors that. When your prompts originate from a deeper, more structured thought process, the output expands your insight instead of diluting it.

The goal is not to “prompt better.” The goal is to think with more dimension before you ask the machine to scale that thinking.

Clear thinkers use AI as a lens that sharpens ideas. Unstructured thinkers use AI as a shortcut that compresses them.

A few minutes of intentional thought before you prompt creates a dramatic difference:
your ideas carry greater nuance, your decisions gain weight, and your reasoning becomes more durable.

AI becomes a force multiplier for depth instead of a conveyor belt of generic answers.

Early in my consulting days, I noticed something strange. Whenever a founder felt overwhelmed, their prompts became simpler, shorter, and less reflective. Within minutes, the outputs they received looked eerily similar to thousands of other answers floating through the internet.

But the moment I paused and asked them three questions …

“What’s the real decision you’re making?”
“What’s driving this urgency?”
“What outcome do you actually want?”

… their entire prompt shifted.

AI responded differently because they were thinking differently.

The depth of the conversation returned. The solutions became coherent again.

That was the first time I documented a simple truth: When your thinking contracts, AI contracts with you.

When your thinking expands, AI expands everything you create.

⚙️ Tactical Application: The Constraint-Based Prompt Method

1. Start with a pre-prompt pause

Write your thought in one sentence on paper.
This brings shape to your intention before the machine joins the conversation.

2. Use the “3 Angles Method” before generating

Ask yourself:

• What is the strategic angle?

• What is the emotional or human angle?

• What is the operational angle?

You’re not writing a prompt yet … you’re expanding the thinking behind it.

3. Add one constraint

A constraint increases clarity. Choose one:

• Time constraint (short-term vs. long-term)

• Format constraint (list, map, steps, narrative)

• Boundary constraint (only use my existing tools, team size, or resources)

Constraints sharpen thinking. AI becomes more precise.

4. Now build the prompt

Combine the one-sentence intention, the three angles, and the chosen constraint.
This structure creates depth and direction before generation begins.

5. Review the output using a single filter

Ask:
“Does this strengthen the original idea?”
If not, refine the angle… not the wording.

This is how you keep your originality intact.
